WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED BY Marek Kościółek

“Workshops – my meeting with you”.

Because how else should you call workshops today in this “rushing” world? What matters to me is what is inside us, what thoughts, events, feelings and emotional states accompany us here and now. What impressions do we come across in the context of questions about the space in which we live.

Through my theatrical experience, I would like to share with you a part of my journey which I call my own identity. And that it will be lively, reflective, organic and fun? I hope so, at least. And I believe that during this short time we will try to discover and ask together.

Superbia. Avaritia. Luxuria. Invidia. Bump. Ira. Acedia.

SALIGIA is an attempt to look at a man. The 7 deadly sins become a pretext to expose human nature, to discover what is hidden under the skin of each of us, even when crossing the thin line between life and death. The appearing apple symbol can mean life, happiness, human sensitivity, sensuality, but also wealth, power and immortality. The crucible of beliefs, or without faith, finishes the image of a white peacock, for some, a hope of resurrection, for others, a way of reincarnation, and for others, a meaningless bird in the feeling that “life” is only here and now.

About the theater:

Teatr Trzcina has been operating for 10 years. Young artists closely observe the world, life and man, creating characters for their original performances on stage. The synergy of the arts allows them to use and use various means of expression to communicate with the audience. They create in the convention of the theater of movement, plastic theater, visual theater. The current cast was appointed in January 2017, preparing the premiere of the performance inspired by the seven deadly sins “SALIGIA”. It is one of two plays staged by this line-up of actors. The topic was taken up in a broad metaphor, as an attempt to search for answers, from which in each of us so much hatred, discord, observing the current situation nationally and internationally. Philosophical threads became the canvas for a short story, where our imperfections intertwine in the human crucible, and the will to have power is dominant. The whole is crowned with a broad metaphor of a white peacock symbolizing the journey of souls.

Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 15.10 / Carmina room

Directed by Monika Adamiec

Screenplay: Monika Adamiec

About the show:

Through the torn sheet in time, the heroes of Bruno Schulz’s prose slide into our reality. For a short while, people, figures, objects and our ideas about the legend of Schulz come to us, bear witness to themselves, to disappear like a dream again and leave us to reflect.

We are invited, even for a brief moment, to the enchanting world, which is a mixture of dreams, dreams, scraps of unreal reality. Each character carries luggage with him, his story about life. “Scraps” of Schulz’s stories, like scraps of our young life, hide regret, longing, a sense of loss, sadness, a real feeling for a loved one, desire, I rule revenge, hope and mystery.

Bruno Schulz left us his notes and drawings, “scraps of himself”. Curious about his world, we ask where are the remaining “treasures”? We hope that somewhere, at some point, in some unknown attic in Drohobych, Lviv, Warsaw, Zakopane, under a layer of metaphysical feathers and cinnamon dust, we will find lost letters, letters, drawings and graphics by Bruno Schulz. Let’s be vigilant, let’s look for …

Kaprys Theater

The performance “What this spectacle is not about”

Duration of the performance: 40 minutes.

Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 17.10 / Granary

Directed by Adam Karasiewicz

Screenplay: Adam Karasiewicz

About the show:

The performance of the middle school group is based on amusing ballads by Igor Sikirycki, although perversely perhaps they are not the main subject of the performance.

About the theater:

The theater is a group of young amateur actors from Łapy. He started active in 2016. Despite, admittedly, only two fully realized performances, he achieved success in an extremely short time. He specializes in comedies, as exemplified by last year’s “Ugly Beauty” and this year’s “Żubr”, but he hopes that in the near future he will expand his repertoire with a few other plays that deviate from the generally accepted convention. Theater actors are distinguished by both the passion they put into creating heroes in which they play on stage, and the unprecedented willingness to act and further develop. The members of the group crave newer and newer challenges, something that will allow them to prove themselves, and to harness their potential.

Tetrahedron Theater

 (Racibórz Cultural Center)

The performance “Because of some mystery”

Duration of the performance: 40 minutes.

Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 18.00 / Carmina room

Directed by Grażyna Tabor

Screenplay: Grażyna Tabor

About the show:

Young actors face a demanding guide (such as W. Gombrowicz) through the world of human nature – twisted, full of appearances, falsehood, cynicism, with a tendency to play games. In a world “smelling of heather and mint, yet strangely unconvincing.”

The actors juggle around conflicting feelings – enchantment and incomprehension, hierarchy of superiority and inferiority, race and faith, the state of alienation and the desire to “belong”. A young, maturing man, full of trust and noble motives, is led through such a crucible. It is an “initiation” story about “crossing” childhood.

“Poor child, he will suffer terribly when he comes to consciousness. Then something like an internal pogrom will take place in it. “

About the theater:

TETRAEDR THEATER – exists since 1992. It is a common path and a piece of life for many young people who have left a lot of good energy, emotions, their own stories here, contributed to the development of a specific style of work and image on stage. The essence of TETRAEDR’s work is organic, physical, appealing to archetypes, rituals and rhythms of everyday life – away from journalism. It is all part of surrealism, absurdity and grotesque. Theater confronts reality through such literary inspirations as: Kajzar, Tuwim, Miłobędzka, Spath, Gombrowicz, Schulz, Veteranyi – limiting the word to a minimum, preferably creating live music on stage. The theater has staged about 28 performances.

Duration of the performance: 55 minutes.

Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 20.45 / Carmina room

Directed by Peter Luptovský

Screenplay: Zuzana Bírešová

The performance “O Skutkoch a jestvovaniu” is a special proposal, using non-verbal means of artistic expression. It is a combination of movements, gestures, emotions and music. Artists are interested in topics such as man in relation not only to temporal values such as money, but also to transcendence. The performance is aimed at both adults and teenagers. The theme of the performance is the emotional expression of the world and the man who is part of it, looking for self-esteem in the reality of this world and the relationship with destiny, God and other metaphysical powers that guide us. The show is based on the novel by Gabriel Garcia Márquez “A very old gentleman with huge wings”. Searching for emotional substance, self-expression and the outside world through movement, gesture and lack of sthe hunt is the basis of strong movement and the metaphorical expression of action and being. The theater in the performance wanted to compose a story against the background of the magic scene and characters from Márquez’s novels in a different way, but with the same result. Movement, music, emotions and they mutually influence the energy of the actors on stage – in the world of dreams. They provided the basis for inspiring searches for paths to and from the world, ourselves …

Duration of the performance: 55 minutes.

The author of the show: Włodzimierz Staniewski

About the show:

It is impossible to play the entire text of Wesele today.

Can not. It is not right.

Why?

Because it would be to the great detriment of the Poet.

After all, Wyspiański was a poet, just like Greek tragedians, poets

(and not playwrights) they were called.

For the meanings to be meaningfully expressed, they must be separated from the characters and the dignity of pure poetry must be returned. That Poetry would be a goddess. Separate from Jaśki, Czepce, Maryś, Gospodyń, Wojtek, Isia (leave Czepca!).

And sing. Like Homeric aojids (yes – you need Homer’s lute). ()

Wyspiański uses a symbol and an allusion. To his time. It is impossible to resist allusions to our times in today’s Wedding.

I do not like this. I practice theater operating with universal mythology and archetypes. Codes.

The compulsions and nightmares that are poured out in today’s reality, however, can fuel a stage performance.

These compulsions crammed into trials with desperation worthy of a better cause.

So some stayed.

Like ghosts in Wyspiański’s.

Włodzimierz Staniewski, Wesele – director’s note: fragments

“To find Greek myths and Dionysia in Stanisław Wyspiański’s Wedding – this is the undertaking!

Włodzimierz Staniewski, taking up the Wedding, looks for what is the most burning and universal at the same time. He removes the rest. Polish, Ukrainian and Jewish motifs are intertwined with the music of Zygmunt Konieczny and the paintings of Jacek Malczewski. It sublimates the meaning. “

Center for Theater Practices “Gardzienice”.

Established in 1977 by Włodzimierz Staniewski, on the eastern wall of Poland, right next to the Iron Curtain, it has become known around the world thanks to its performances and rigorous theater practices. Staniewski was looking for a nursery, forgotten by God and history, isolated from the rest of the world, “where the devil says goodnight”, where nothing reaches and where nothing comes out of. He chose the village of Gardzienice. It was – for those times – not only an act of desperation but also a risk of civil suicide. The wonderful prospects offered to him by his theater patrons and the cultural milieu of Kraków and Wrocław have been broken.

People started talking about “Gardzienice”. Young people were drawn to Staniewski from everywhere. He offered them backbreaking work in a ravaged lamus (the legendary 5 x 7 m post-Marian chapel), a flat between a gumn and a pigsty and wandering through the lost villages (famous artistic and research expeditions) in order to “fraternize with the people” . environment.

Today we can risk a statement that the phenomenon called “Gardzienice” was one of the outposts of changes that took place in Poland after 1989.

Over the past 35 years, the Gardzienice Center for Theater Practices has employed several dozen artists and cultural animators from Poland and around the world. Their several-year or even longer contributions to the mission and traces of their creative presence are recorded in the literature on the subject and in annals describing successive battles and stages of the theater evolution. Two of them deserve special recognition. They are Mariusz Gołaj and Tomasz Rodowicz.

In September 2013, a new theater complex was opened in Gardzienice. Brought to a complete destruction by successive rulers (during the sixty post-war years) – the architectural palace and park complex has now been raised from the ruins and ruins and miraculously restored.

Staniewski is the initiator of this project, author of the concept, fundraiser and executor of the implementation – down to the smallest detail. He calls this project his most important directorial work, his opus magnum.

The “Gardzienice” Theater has become well recognized thanks to its in-depth research in the field of indigenous and ancient musical traditions, exceptional acting techniquesm (body, voice), thanks to commitment to creating in a natural environment and emphasizing the principles of reciprocity at work.

Alison Hodge, XX-Century Actor’s Training, Routledge

Staniewski’s theatrical doctrine, called “the ecology of theater”, is mentioned today as one of the most important. Numerous artists and theater and animation groups, both in Poland and abroad, draw abundantly from the exploration and achievements of the Gardzienice Theater. The successive constellations of people whom Staniewski gathered around him constituted – always – an international variety. The exploration of Antiquity and turning to the literary, musical and mythological themes of antiquity made it possible to communicate over cultural and stereotypical divisions.

Tadeusz Kornaś – Włodzimierz Staniewski and the Center for Theater Practices, Homini

This extraordinary, intransigent (…) group, working under the inspiring leadership of Włodzimierz Staniewski … is, in my opinion, one of only a few significant theater groups in the world.

“Puk – Puk” Theater

(Municipal Cultural Center in Świdnik)

Guest performance “Głusi”

Duration of the performance: 30 minutes.

Friday, June 8, 2018 at 21.15 / Carmina room

Directed by Katarzyna Marjasiewicz

Screenplay: Katarzyna Marjasiewicz

About the show:

The protagonists of the show are young people who share a passion for theater. The action takes place during their participation in the rehearsal of the spectacle they create together. The performance shows the relationships between young people and their parents, as well as the theatrical passion of the characters played by the actors. Art heroes rebel against the reality that surrounds them, the prohibitions and orders that limit their freedom. They fight for their rights to happiness and respect for their own interests and passions. They speak in their own language about the problems that concern them.

About the theater:

The theater has existed since February 1997. During that time, many, many people visited the group (so much that it is quite difficult to count them). For some, theater was just a passing adventure, for some it became a life passion.

The aim of the activities carried out in the theater is not to educate a professional actor or to prepare team members for the theater school exams, but to educate an active, creative person who feels needed and artistically fulfilled with a sense of community.

For over twenty years of activity, the group has produced both shows in the technique of a living plan and shows combining a living plan and puppets. The team also created outdoor shows. A significant part of the performances prepared by the theater are original shows.

The group’s achievements also include songs that in 2012. were released on the album “Puk – Pukowe songs”.

The theater is a laureate of many festivals (national and international), including Castle Theater Meetings in Szydłowiec, the International Festival of Children and Youth Theaters “Wigraszek” in Suwałki, the Płock Kramik of Children and Youth Theaters “Heca” in Płock, Confrontation of Small Theater Groups “Theater Feast in Horyniec Zdrój,” Other “Festival of Youth Theaters in Krosno , National Presentations of Amateur Theaters OPTA in Wrocław, as well as the TVP 2 scholarship competition “Creative Valley”, the Internet Review of Students’ Amateur Theater Groups, organized by TVP.
