The Centre for Theatre Practices “Gardzienice”invites to the vernissage of an exhibition of paintings by Andrzej Bieńkowski”Music Sold Away”.
The vernissage will take place on 23 April 2022, in the Palace of the Centre for Theatre Practices “Gardzienice”.

Andrzej Bieńkowski (born 1946) painter, ethnographer, photographer, Professor of Fine Arts. Since 1980, during his expeditions to the countryside he has gathered an impressive private ethnographic archive containing thousands of audio and video recordings and photographs from Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus. Individual exhibitions of painting and photography in Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Italy, Germany, Switzerland. Participation in many group exhibitions. In 2007, together with his wife Małgorzata, he founded the Muzyka Odnaleziona (Music Found, now WMO) publishing house, devoted to rural music, whose releases have won many awards in the Polish Radio Two’s Fonogram Źródeł competition. In 2012, the Muzyka Odnaleziona foundation was established, of which he is the founder. He collaborates with Polish Radio, where he presented his collections on RDC radio, in the programme Muzyka Odnaleziona (Music Found). He hosts a programme every other Tuesday on Polish Radio Two – RCKL in the ‘Sources’ cycle. Author of films-documentaries The last rural musicians, Jewish music in the memory of rural musicians, Ukraine. In search of pagan rites, the Gaca musicians from Radom, and a series of short films popularising rural music (together with Monika Mencina). In recent years, he has organised many individual photo exhibitions of “The Last Rural Musicians” on fences in villages. Author of several books on music ethnology. Winner of the Oskar Kolberg Award in 1995 and the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award in 2008, in 2014 he was awarded the Gloria Artis Silver Medal for his work. Winner of the gold badge of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers.
