I understand your words and intentions. I also see the enormity of the devastation that is coming… and I am frightened. Let me join your votes. We know and see that harm breeds harm, evil breeds evil, violence – violence, madness – madness. The allegory contained in the movie parable “Joker” (2019) comes to mind. A cruel fairy tale of our time. And the question: how to stop this mad circle?
I understand feeling hurt. And I know it’s strong emotions. Those who fail to deal with them must explode sooner or later. I read carefully and it seems to me that in the case of Mariana Sadovska such an incendiary spark was – in my opinion terrifying – the filmed experiment “Dau” by J. Chrzanowski, filmed for several years in Ukraine, near Kharkiv. Premiere 2020. I notice the political radicalization of a talented Ukrainian singer whom I met long ago in Gardzienice. Now, on her FB website, Mariana Sadovska advertises the group she identifies with and invites them to political and social shows that mobilize them to actively engage in the fight for universal and comprehensive international justice. In Poland, independent and talented adult women with a pedigree from Gardzienice join the protest of Mariana Sadovska. Among them are the #metoo victims, there are struggling feminists and their fervent defenders. Most of the people in this group are involved in what I believe is right for the women’s revolt in our country. But in the face of powerlessness in the face of the prevailing politics, this group also becomes radicalized, pointing to the source of evil, ie the oppressive “systemic patriarchy”. A tribe of modern, brave Amazons is born. We have, for example, “Devils” created by Agnieszka Błońska and Joanna Wichowska at the Powszechny Theater in Warsaw (premiere 2020). I haven’t seen it, but I have the impression that the authors have a fierce struggle with everything that they read as patriarchal oppression. Their friend, young and darts editor who published in GW, Dwutygodnik, Oko.press, etc. joined the action. Editor Witold Mrozek (as I understand from his public posts, an advocate of the fight against what he calls class social injustice) adds fuel to the fire by publishing on social media an intrusive and on my senses obnoxious advertisement for the whole issue. It’s a “scandal for sale” ad! The editor is involved in social engineering of controlling emotions and imagination. The trick is known and simple: to quote the title, slogan or hashtag, irritating the imagination and instinctively evoking emotions of the audience. The slogans prejudge our assessment, they are to paralyze further analysis, reflection and reflection. And if someone runs out of imagination, the editor will suggest what he associates with, for example, “hard trade”, about which Mariusz Gołaj wrote. It appears that the editor does not see such an interpretation as sexual harassment. He will suspend the sentence equivalent in understatement and by innuendo blackmail us emotionally. I also notice that the action of editor Mrozek is immersed in the context of the progressive struggle of the contemporary model of a young man with the oppressive domination of older men, not from this era, who occupy high stools. Undeservedly? Despite their experience, knowledge, wisdom and competence? Another war, political, cultural, class?
Harm breeds harm, evil breeds evil, violence breeds violence, madness breeds madness. How do I stop it? The answer seems to be simple, but how difficult in practice, when swinging emotions dominate reflection and responsibility. Don’t take part in it? This is probably not enough, because there are also people on the other side of the barricade. Gorgeous and crippled at the same time, like all of us. They are now, right in front of our eyes, victims of collective violation of human rights, mass mobbing, verbal violence, public lynx – the entire team of the Gardzienice Theater, Academy graduates, our colleagues, our friends, our loved ones. They were branded, all of them. Will they recover from this trauma? Perhaps with time the name Gardzienice Theater will be associated with the concept of guard, with defense against contemptuous judgment.
We know that none of us is completely innocent, but do we realize that tomorrow the target of such a campaign could be you, could be me? Do we really no longer have ca civilized way to decide about the guilt alleged against one of us, one man? We don’t have a civilized way of deciding about personal consequences? Deciding respectfully for the rights of each of us, without exception?
It seems to me – figuratively speaking – that we are galloping faster and faster, more and more blind, into the ever denser forest … And I don’t understand this anymore.
